Jammu and Kashmir RTO Vehicle Registration Office Code and District Number List 2024
Jammu and Kashmir RTO 2024: In the region of Jammu and Kashmir [jaktrans.nic.in], the Motor Vehicle Act of 1939 has been superseded by the Motor Vehicle Act of 1988. This transition has introduced a set of new regulations known as the Central Motor Vehicle Rules of 1989 and the State Motor Vehicle Rules of 1991. These regulations are designed to oversee various facets of vehicular operations in the area. The regulatory framework consists of the Motor Vehicle Act of 1988, along with the Central Motor Vehicle Rules of 1989, the J&K Motor Vehicle Rules of 1991, and the J&K Motor Vehicle Taxation Act of 1957.
To facilitate effective enforcement of these regulations, a structured administrative hierarchy has been established. At the state level, the Transport Commissioner is in charge, while the Regional Transport Officers manage operations within their respective regions. At the district level, responsibilities fall to the Assistant Regional Transport Officers. Moreover, there are 17 District Transport Offices (ARTO) positioned at district headquarters, in addition to three Regional Transport Authorities located in Jammu, Kashmir, and Kathua.
